- Organization - Is this visual a painting, cartoon, propaganda, photograph? What is the main focus?
- The visual is propaganda. The main focus is how business owners sacrifice their workers in order to gain money and resources.
- Parts – What are the pieces that make up this picture or photo: divide it into parts; split into four and study each part or look at the foreground and background.
- The workers are aware that they are going to be working in harsh conditions, but they do it anyway. In the middle, people are going in a machine, and money and material are coming out. At the end, rich people are all talking together and having a good time, from the things the workers are making by going in the machine.
- Title – Does the title reveal anything?
- The tile shows us that the workers are making a huge sacrifice for them and their families, but they really aren't the ones benefiting.
- Interrelationships – How do the items/people/subjects of the visual interact? Is one person or subject presented as having more power ?
- The people on the right obviously have more power than the workers because they are using them to get the things they want. The interaction shows how different their lives are, who really has to suffer.
- Context: what do we know about the subject/ person in the picture? or the painter?
- The workers in the artwork are sacrificing themselves for the rich people. The painter probably understood the workers and empathized with them.
These circumstances also happened in other times in history. People have always been treated unfairly. Even now days, people are doing the dirt hard jobs so we can enjoy life. People are doing what ever they can (like working in factories during the Industrial Revolution), to get money for their families. It is important not to think those people are less than us, but to be grateful for them.
